Curry Barker's horror film Obsession won five awards at the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, more than any other title, Variety reported on 26 October 2026.

Barker took Best Director and Best Screenplay for the film. Inde Navarrette won Best Lead Performance, and Obsession also took Best Wide Release, the category for films that play in cinemas across many screens.

Backrooms came second on the tally with three wins: Best First Feature, Best Cinematography and Best Score. Cinematography is the work of the camera crew that decides how a film looks, and the score is its original music.

Television and games were part of the night too. Widow's Bay won Best Series, and Resident Evil: Requiem took Best Video Game.

The awards are presented by Fangoria, the long-running horror magazine. Devon Sawa hosted the ceremony, and the show premiered on Shudder, the streaming service devoted to horror films and series.

The prizes have a long history. Fangoria's awards began as live events at Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors conventions in the early to mid-1990s, according to the magazine's own archive. At the 2021 ceremony, David Dastmalchian hosted, Keith David gave the first presentation, and Clancy Brown won Best Supporting Performance for The Mortuary Collection.

Nominations came earlier in the year. In July, Fangoria named Frankenstein, Hokum and The Bride! as the titles with the most nominations, five each. Obsession was among the films on that list, and Weapons also earned four nominations.

For fans who follow the genre, the night gave a clear picture of which films, series and games the horror community rewarded this year. For the people who made them, it was a public thank you for months of work that most viewers never see.

Barker's two wins sit at the centre of a film that began as a modest title and now carries the most trophies of the year. The next step for the film's makers is not yet known.
