"Night Feeds," directed by Rana Roy and starring May Calamawy, will open the first Yami International Film Festival. Alex Goyette's "Breeder" will close it. Variety reported the opening and closing titles on 26 October.

The festival runs from November 20 to 26 at Human Trust Cinema Shibuya, in the Shibuya district of Tokyo. It is run by Yami Inc. and devoted to horror and other dark genre cinema. Its website gives the tagline "Darkness Makes the World Known."

The open call ran from late May to the end of August. It drew 182 entries from 40 countries and territories. Submissions opened on May 27 through FilmFreeway, an online platform where festivals collect film entries. The organisers selected six features for the feature competition and eight short films for the short competition.

Two feature competition titles will have their Asian premieres: Zoe Berriatua's "Buffet Libre" and Abner Pastoll's "Nervous." Rick Kawanaka's Japanese film "The Pot" is the festival's only world premiere. Katagiri Eriko's "When You Open the Door" will screen as a special presentation.

Rana Roy and Alex Goyette will travel to Tokyo to serve on the jury. Japanese actress Sukezane Kiki completes the three-person panel. The festival director and head of programming is producer Wada Arihiro.

"Night Feeds" was made at the American Film Institute. In "Breeder," Dot-Marie Jones plays Patti. Both the opening and closing filmmakers will be in the room in Tokyo, sitting on the jury that picks the prizes.
