Capcom Says Onimusha: Way of the Sword Has Hit the Right Difficulty

Capcom believes its action game Onimusha: Way of the Sword has landed its difficulty where it wanted, according to game director Satoru Nihei. Eurogamer reported his comments on 26 October 2026.
The company says it studied gameplay data from players to see where they get stuck and how they move on. Nihei said the trends in that data are close to what the team set out to achieve. Players do stumble, die and get defeated at certain points, he said, but they are able to overcome those moments and keep progressing.
The view comes after a pre-launch demo split players. Opinions were divided on how hard the enemies and encounters were. PC Gamer reported Capcom's data-based view on 23 October 2026.
Capcom also said it did not intend the game to be especially hard in the way of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice or the Nioh series. Both are known for demanding combat, and Capcom has positioned Onimusha differently.
The combat is built around a light/heavy attack system, which means players mix two basic kinds of strike. The game also includes a Story mode, also called Storyline Focus, which lets players concentrate on the narrative. Game Informer covered that mode in September 2026.
Eurogamer describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a million-seller, meaning it has sold at least a million copies. Capcom has not, in the reporting cited here, given a sales figure of its own.
For players deciding whether to pick it up, the practical details are the mode options and the demo experience. Capcom's position is that the main game sits where the company intended, based on what players have done with it so far.
