U.S. President Donald Trump escalated his criticism of Norway on October 25, speaking in Port Huron, Michigan. Reuters reported that he disparaged Norway using vulgar language after the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded its 2026 Peace Prize.

The prize went to Navi Pillay. The committee announced the award on October 9, 2026, and its chair, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, made the announcement. Trump had already complained about not receiving the prize on that day.

According to Forbes, Trump said he "should have won 8 Nobel Peace Prizes, not just 1." He described the outcome as an "indelible stain on Norway," and called the committee's choice "a disgraceful and embarrassing decision," arguing that the award should have gone to him.

Trump also said he did not want immigrants from Norway "because I didn't get the Nobel Prize," according to CTV News.

Norwegian officials have said that Norway has no influence over who receives the Nobel Peace Prize. The New York Times reported that statement, which responds to the criticism directed at the country.
