Sharjah Children's Film Festival Signs Deal With UAE Media Regulator

The organiser of the Sharjah International Film Festival for Children and Youth has signed a memorandum of understanding, a formal agreement that sets out how two parties will work together, with the UAE National Media Authority. Variety reported that the document was signed on the opening day of the festival's 13th edition.
The organiser is FANN, a media discovery platform that runs the festival. Under the deal, the National Media Authority becomes an official supporting partner of the event.
The main practical change concerns screenings. The authority will help secure the permits needed to show participating films. Where necessary, it will coordinate with embassies, consulates, cultural organisations and government bodies, which can be a slow part of bringing films from abroad to a local audience.
Festival teams will also receive training on the authority's electronic services, along with technical support, so that the regulatory paperwork can move faster. The two sides will work together on the festival's media and communications as well.
The agreement also lets representatives of the National Media Authority take part in festival juries and in the evaluation of films. A jury is the panel that chooses prize winners, so this gives the regulator a seat in those discussions.
The National Media Authority is itself new. A federal decree, a formal order issued by the national government, created it in December 2025. It took over duties that had sat with the UAE Media Council, the National Media Office and the Emirates News Agency.
The festival runs through 1 November and features 71 films from 38 countries. Its programme is aimed at young audiences, and the new partnership gives its organisers a clearer route through the rules that govern screenings.
For parents, teachers and young filmmakers in the region, the practical result is simple. Films from many countries should face a more organised path to the screen, and the festival team gains official support in handling it.
