Guadalupe Taddei Zavala has announced her resignation as president of Mexico's National Electoral Institute, known as the INE, the country's electoral watchdog. The New York Times reported that she faced accusations of corruption and influence peddling in connection with the move.

Taddei, who holds the title Consejera Presidenta, announced the decision on Sunday, October 25. A message from her on the INE's Central Electoral website addressed the resignation, according to the INE. Mexico News Daily reported that she was due to submit the resignation on October 26 to the Chamber of Deputies, the lower house of Mexico's federal Congress.

The INE said on October 26 that it is maintaining its electoral organization work and will act in accordance with the law following the announcement, according to a statement published that day. In an interview the same day, INE electoral councillor Carla Humphrey said that Taddei's resignation had not yet been formalized, according to the INE's transcript.

Reuters described the resignation as the most high-profile departure tied to alleged corruption during the presidency of Claudia Sheinbaum.
