Michelle Hooper Is Leaving Searchlight Pictures After Nearly Two Decades

Michelle Hooper is leaving Searchlight Pictures, the film label, after almost twenty years at the company. Deadline reported the exit as an exclusive on 27 October 2026.

Hooper joined Searchlight in 2006 and served as its executive vice president of marketing. Marketing is the team that sells a film to the public, from the posters and trailers to the campaign that tries to fill cinema seats on opening weekend.

Her rise through the department was steady. In August 2009, Hooper and Stephanie Allen were promoted to executive vice presidents of marketing. Deadline reported the move, and Screen Daily said Sheila DeLoach was promoted to an executive vice-president-level role at the same time.

Her name also appears in later rounds of promotions. In September 2018, Hooper announced that Melissa Holloway, Angela Johnson and Barry Dale Johnson had been elevated to senior vice president posts in national publicity, the team that handles press coverage and interviews for a film's stars and makers. Deadline carried that announcement.

For people outside the business, a departure like this is easy to miss. Behind every opening-weekend poster sits a small group of executives who approve the ads, plan the release and choose the moment a trailer drops. Hooper spent most of two decades in that group, and her exit ends that run at the label.

Searchlight has built a long record of smaller, specialist releases, and marketing chiefs there have spent years deciding how those films reach audiences that may not realise they want them.
