Comedian Modi Gets a Documentary, With a 2027 Sale in Sight

A documentary about Modi Rosenfeld, the comedian known as Modi, has finished filming and is now in editing. Its makers hope to sell it and release it in 2027, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which reported the project on 27 October 2026.
Modi is a gay Orthodox Jewish performer and a former Merrill Lynch trader. He is 55. His family moved from Israel to Long Island when he was seven years old. He has performed at New York venues including the Comedy Cellar.
The film is directed by Seth Kramer and Daniel A. Miller, who are both Emmy nominees. Mayim Bialik, who played Amy Farrah Fowler on The Big Bang Theory, is working on it as both an onscreen commentator and an executive producer.
The documentary is independently financed, which means no major studio is paying for it. It centres on two performances at Radio City Music Hall from last spring, according to the same report. Those shows give the film its main setting, and the rest of the story is built around them.
Next comes the sale. A distributor is the company that buys the rights to show a film in cinemas, on television or on streaming. Independent documentaries often find those buyers at festivals and film markets, where sales agents meet distributors to make deals. No buyer has been named for this film.
For Modi's fans, the timing gives them a clear picture of what comes next. The film has moved past shooting and into the long edit that comes before any screening. A 2027 release would put it on the calendar roughly a year from now, though nothing has been fixed yet.
Modi's life story has three clear stages: a childhood move from Israel, a career in finance, and a second career on stage. The documentary will follow how those pieces fit together, and the two Radio City shows will sit at the centre of it.
