NBC News Hires Kevin Delaney to Lead Digital Content and Subscriptions

NBC News has hired Kevin Delaney as its head of digital content and subscription, Variety reported on 27 October 2026. He is slated to start on 16 November.
The job is new. It sits between the newsroom and the business side of the company, which is why it has two bosses. Delaney will report to Catherine Kim, NBC News executive vice president of editorial and content, and to Sat Brainch, chief business officer of NBCUniversal News Group. Editorial is the side that decides what gets reported and how. Business covers the money, including the subscriptions that readers pay for.
Delaney will oversee digital publishing, meaning the stories and material NBC News puts online. He will also oversee the company's work on artificial intelligence, the computer systems that can write, sort and analyse information.
Delaney has worked in digital news for years. He co-founded Quartz and Charter. Most recently he was editor in chief of the San Francisco Standard, the local news outlet in California's Bay Area. Before that he held senior editorial roles at The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and The Information.
For readers, the appointment is a sign of where NBC News is putting its effort. Online news is now a business where people sign up and pay, and where a publisher has to earn that payment. A single leader who answers to both the newsroom and the business side is one way to keep those two sides talking.
The appointment has not yet taken effect. Delaney's first day is 16 November, so the early work of the role will start a few weeks from the date of the announcement.
