Variety has received 62 nominations for the 19th annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards, according to the publication's own announcement on 28 October 2026. The awards are run by the Los Angeles Press Club and recognise reporting on film, music, theatre, television and the wider arts.

The ceremony also brings a special honour. Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile will receive the Humanitarian Award, the publication said.

Several Variety writers are on the ballot. Owen Gleiberman is nominated for Film Critic. Chris Willman has two nominations, for Music Critic and for Print Journalist of the Year. Daniel D'Addario is nominated for Theater/Performing Arts Critic, and Ethan Shanfeld for Online Journalist of the Year in the organisation category.

The number is lower than last year. For the 18th awards, the publication reported 107 nominations in October 2025. It won 20 prizes at the previous year's ceremony.

The contest is open to journalists who cover arts and entertainment in the United States. International journalists are eligible too, according to the Press Club's contest page.

Winners will be announced on 6 December at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Until then, the nominations are the only results on the table. Each category has its own panel of judges, so the list of names is a snapshot of who was put forward rather than a ranking.

For readers who follow film and music coverage, the names are a useful map of who is writing the reviews, previews and interviews they read. Awards like these are one way the industry recognises that work, alongside the readers and editors who choose what to publish.
