Alastair Campbell on Trump, political violence and populism

Alastair Campbell has argued that populist politics began in the aftermath of the global financial crisis. He made the argument in an episode of the Guardian's Australian Politics podcast, published on 28 October, in which he spoke with political editor Tom McIlroy about Trump, political violence and populism.
Campbell is a former journalist and a former staffer to Tony Blair. He is also associated with The Rest is Politics podcast.
The discussion of political violence followed an alleged attack on independent MP Helen Haines the previous week. An independent is a member of parliament who is not aligned with one of the major parties.
Campbell's 22nd book is titled Persevilience: The Word the World Needs Now. On 22 October he discussed it with Mishal Husain at Cadogan Hall in London, according to the venue's listing. He will tour Australia in November.
