Think tank previews what to expect from the October Budget

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), a research organisation that analyses taxes and public spending, published a preview of the Budget on 22 October. The Budget is the government's annual statement of its tax and spending plans. In the IFS article "Budget 2026: what should we expect?", the IFS's director, Helen Miller, was joined by IFS economists Max Warner and Stuart Adam to discuss what might be announced at the October Budget.
Miller has led the IFS since 2026 and joined the institute in 2007. Earlier in October, the IFS published its Green Budget 2026 full report on 12 October, setting out its analysis ahead of the statement.
The institute has also listed an event titled "Autumn Budget 2026: IFS analysis". According to the IFS event listing, IFS researchers will present overnight analysis of the economic and fiscal outlook, and Miller will give her response.
BBC News has also published a video on the Budget, placed in its Politics section and linked to its live coverage of the statement.
The IFS has separately published work on business taxation, titled "Patching up business taxes".
