Actor Michael Douglas says he is hoping for "a massacre" in the upcoming United States midterm elections.

He made the remark in an interview with the BBC's Today programme, the morning radio show, while in the UK to promote his autobiography, One Helluva Ride. The midterms are the national elections held halfway through a US president's term, when every seat in the House of Representatives and a third of the Senate is up for vote.

Douglas said he hopes for overwhelming Democratic votes across the board. He also predicted that Congress is going to change, and that the Senate will too.

According to Deadline, which reported the interview on 28 October 2026, Douglas predicted that support for Donald Trump would be wiped out at the polls. He went further on what might follow. If the midterms brought a dramatic change, he said, Democrats would first work on affordability, the cost of everyday living. They would then go after people around Trump over corruption, one by one.

The midterm results are still to come.

Douglas is best known for films including Wall Street, Romancing the Stone and Traffic, and for his decades of work as a producer. His book tour is the reason he was speaking to British listeners at all. Deadline's report was written by Melanie Goodfellow.

Douglas's comments sit alongside a wider run of celebrities talking about politics in the lead-up to the vote. Few of them put their hopes for a result in such blunt terms.
