Checo Perez Commits to Cadillac Until at Least 2029

Sergio Perez has signed a multi-year contract extension that keeps him at Cadillac until at least 2029. The Cadillac Formula 1 Team announced the deal in Mexico City on 28 October 2026, where Perez was set to make his 300th Grand Prix start at his home race.
The 36-year-old, known to fans as "Checo", joined Cadillac in August, before the team's debut Formula 1 season. He is racing alongside Valtteri Bottas, and the first year has been a hard one. Neither driver has scored a point for the team. Perez sits bottom of the 2026 drivers' standings, and his best finish is 14th, a position he has reached three times, in Barcelona, Silverstone and Azerbaijan.
Perez made his debut in 2011 and has won six Grands Prix. Five came with Red Bull between 2021 and 2024, and one came with Racing Point in 2020. He finished third in the 2022 drivers' championship, the season-long points table for individual drivers, and second in 2023, behind Max Verstappen. Red Bull let him go at the end of 2024, even though he still had two years left on his contract.
His route back has not been straight. In early October, the Associated Press reported that Perez had been considering retiring from Formula 1 after returning with Cadillac. Grande Premio had earlier reported his original Cadillac deal, a two-year agreement covering 2026 and 2027. The new extension replaces that timeline.
Perez said he is fully committed to the next three years with Cadillac. The team's engines come from Ferrari, but Cadillac's owner, General Motors, is due to debut its own power unit, the engine and hybrid system that drives the car, from 2029. That is the same season the new contract runs to, at a minimum.
For the team, the deal settles one of the most important seats on the grid for the foreseeable future. For Perez, the next step is the one that matters most to the scoreboard: turning a long run of finishes outside the points into his first Cadillac point.
