Guided by Voices Set Speculation and Gossip for January 22

Guided by Voices will release a new album, Speculation and Gossip, on January 22 through Rockathon Records, Rolling Stone reported on 28 October.
The release date gives fans a fixed day to circle. It also marks the point when the album becomes available to buy and stream, the moment the music moves out of the studio and into listeners' hands.
The album follows Crawlspace of the Pantheon, the band's previous record. Guided by Voices announced that album in February, and it shared a track, "We Outlast Them All," at the same time, according to Stereogum.
Ahead of the new album, the band has put out its first single, "Designed for Use." A single is the song chosen to go out first, so listeners can hear a sample of the full record before it arrives. Rolling Stone identified the track as the lead single from Speculation and Gossip.
Robert Pollard fronts Guided by Voices, the singer who leads the band and is its most visible member. The group has built its name over many albums, and each new record adds to a long run of releases.
Rockathon Records is the label putting the album out. A label pays for recording, manufacturing and promotion, and in return takes a share of what the album earns. Its role in this release is the one that matters most to fans right now: it sets the date, and the album arrives on January 22.
For listeners, the plan is simple. Mark the date, press play on the single, and wait for the full record to land in January.
