Allison Pearson in Negotiations to Leave the Daily Telegraph

Allison Pearson is in negotiations about leaving the Daily Telegraph, The Guardian reported on 28 October 2026. Its sources said she is preparing to announce her exit imminently and is drafting a statement about her future plans.
Pearson has been the Telegraph's chief interviewer and columnist since 2010. Her possible departure comes at a time of change for the newspaper, which was bought by the publisher Axel Springer in a £575m takeover completed in June.
The Guardian also reported that as many as 100 journalists' roles at the Telegraph are at risk of redundancy, a term meaning that staff could lose their jobs because their posts are no longer needed. The Guardian said Axel Springer has described its plan for the title as turning it into "a global, AI-powered premium media and intelligence business."
Axel Springer's chief executive, Mathias Döpfner, said he planned to invest in the Telegraph to make it the leading centre-right media outlet in the English-speaking world. The Telegraph's chief executive, Carolin Hulshoff Pol, said the paper will focus on growing its audience globally, particularly in foreign affairs, defence and business.
In 2024, Essex police investigated Pearson over a social media post, on suspicion of allegedly stirring up racial hatred. The investigation was later dropped.
