Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is expected to be out until at least January with a shin injury. BBC Sport reported the timescale on Wednesday.

A striker is the player whose main job is to score, and Sesko has not played for United since 16 September. That night the club lost 1-0 to Brighton in the Carabao Cup, the League Cup, and he was substituted in the 66th minute. He missed the whole of pre-season with the shin problem.

The complaint first flared up against Liverpool in May. It kept him out of the last three Premier League games of last season. BBC Sport says the current issue is an impact injury, meaning a knock to the bone, rather than shin splints, which are a painful overuse condition along the front of the lower leg.

Before the injury, Sesko had been a useful goalscorer. United signed him from RB Leipzig in August 2025 for £73.7m. Across all competitions he has made 38 appearances for the club, scoring 14 goals and providing one assist. Last season he was United's joint-top Premier League scorer with 11 goals, level with Bryan Mbeumo.

This season he has scored twice, against Everton in the league and against Sabah FK in the Champions League, the European competition for the continent's best clubs. Those are the only goals he has managed so far this campaign.

Michael Carrick, United's manager, has said there is no set timeline for Sesko's return. ESPN also reported in October that this was his second shin injury, which makes the pattern hard to ignore for a player who has yet to settle into a full season at Old Trafford.

For United, the immediate effect is simple. They will be without one of their main attacking options until at least the new year, and the forward line will need other players to step up. For Sesko, the task is equally simple. He needs to get through a full block of training and stay on the pitch.

Fans will watch the coming weeks closely. Each update on his training will decide whether January stays a realistic target or slips further.
