Seb Atkinson commits to Gloucester until at least 2029

England centre Seb Atkinson has signed a new contract that keeps him at Gloucester until at least 2029. The 24-year-old had options to leave the club and chose to stay.
The news came as Gloucester sat top of the Premiership, the top men's league in England. BBC Sport reported the extension, which runs for at least three more seasons. George Skivington is Gloucester's head coach.
A centre is one of the two midfield backs. Their job is to take the ball into contact, win ground between the forwards and the wingers, and set up attacks out wide. It is a role that needs both strength and timing, and it is rarely the flashiest position on the pitch.
Atkinson joined Gloucester from Worcester in 2022. He has played 84 games for the club and started 79 of them, so he has been a regular fixture in the side for some time.
His international career has moved more slowly but steadily. He won his first England cap in July 2025, and he has now played seven times for his country. A cap is the official record of a player's appearance for the national team, and each one is a mark of selection by the coaching staff.
For a player, a long contract removes the uncertainty of waiting to see what happens when a deal runs out. For a club, it means a key player is not heading into the final year of his deal with other teams watching. Neither side has said more about the terms, so the detail of the deal remains between the two of them.
Gloucester's season continues with the Premiership table tight at the top. Atkinson's new deal means he will be part of that push for at least the next three seasons.
