Madison Bailey has signed on to star in SoCal, a '90s noir written and directed by Cameron Van Hoy, Deadline reported on 29 October 2026.

Bailey will play Ramona, a clever and resourceful high school drug dealer. The film is set in San Diego in the summer of 1999, and it is a noir, the old crime-story style built on secrets, bad choices and a hero who cannot quite trust anyone.

The plot starts with a hiring. The school's star quarterback asks Ramona to find his missing girlfriend, Ashley Walker. Ramona takes the job, and the search pulls her into the world of the school and its hidden corners.

Van Hoy is directing from his own script. He is also the director of Flinch, a crime thriller, which gives him a track record in the genre he is now bringing to the late 1990s.

Bailey is best known to many viewers as Kie Carrera in Netflix's Outer Banks. That teen drama concluded its five-season run in August, so the new role comes shortly after the show's finale.

SoCal is being produced by five companies: Ardor Pictures, Ferrari Films, Live Nation Studios, Gulfstream Pictures and Luber Roklin Entertainment. A producer is the company or person that brings a film together, from the script and the cast to the money needed to make it.

For fans of the actress, the appeal is a move from a long-running series into a feature film with a different tone and a new setting. For fans of the genre, the film's mix of a 1999 high school and a missing-person hunt is a clear hook on its own.
