Marvel and George Takei Pay Tribute to Patrick Stewart

Marvel Studios has said it is deeply saddened by the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart, the British actor best known to many fans as Professor Charles Xavier, the telepathic leader of the X-Men.
In a statement, Marvel said Stewart defined the role for generations of fans. It named the X-Men films, the film Logan and Avengers: Doomsday, in which Stewart reprised Xavier. The studio's words were shared in a roundup of reactions published by Deadline on 29 October 2026.
Among the tributes was one from George Takei, who appeared alongside Stewart's work in the science-fiction world of Star Trek. Takei called Stewart a true and irreplaceable legend. He also pointed to Stewart's best-known television role, as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the commander of the starship Enterprise in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Stewart was also a memoir writer. His book Making It So won the 2024 Audie Award for Autobiography. The Audie Awards, run in the United States, honour audiobooks, and the win meant that Stewart's own reading of his life story was recognised. The title comes from one of Picard's best-known lines, and it became the name of the book.
For many people, the reactions show how far Stewart's work reached. Fans who first met him as a starship captain on television, as a stern but caring mentor in the Marvel films, or as a voice telling his own story in an audiobook, now have the chance to look back at all of it. Tributes from fellow actors and studios have followed the same thread: the roles, and the people who played them.
