Fanny Lumsden's fifth studio album, Traditions, was released on 30 October 2026, according to Billboard, which reported the date. The Australian country singer recorded the album live over nine days with her band, The Daddies, who are also known as the Prawn Stars.

The record has 11 songs and was produced by Steven Schram. Its singles are 'Difficult Woman', 'Mother's Eyes' and 'By The River'. 'By The River' is a collaboration with Paul Kelly, meaning the two artists share the song as performers.

Lumsden manages her career herself, with her husband, Dan Freeman. Freeman plays bass in her band and also runs their label, Red Dirt Road Records. Lumsden spoke to Billboard over Zoom from her property in Tooma, on the western side of the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales.

The release comes after a busy stretch of touring. Lumsden opened for Paul Kelly on his arena tour of Australia, alongside Lucinda Williams. In 2025 she completed a 10-week trip across Europe and the British Isles, which ended with a show in Dublin. A national tour of Australia was planned to begin the day after Traditions came out, according to Country Town, which announced the dates in August 2026.

Lumsden has won this category before. Her 2020 album Fallow took the best country album prize at the ARIA Awards, Australia's main music awards. Her 2023 album Hey Dawn, her fourth studio album, won the same award that year. Dolly Parton presented the win by video link. ARIA's chart news said Hey Dawn debuted at No. 10 on the ARIA Albums Chart, which ranks sales and streams each week in Australia. The album was released through Cooking Vinyl Australia and The Orchard, a distribution company that gets music into shops and onto streaming services.

For an artist who manages herself and runs her own label, a release is also a planning job. Dates, freight and the band's schedule all have to line up, and the album's first week of sales will be counted by the ARIA chart.

Traditions is available now on the same streaming services and in the same shops as her earlier records, and the tour is set to follow.
