Cat&Docs Takes International Sales Rights to 'We Had a Plan' Ahead of IDFA Premiere

Paris-based Cat&Docs has acquired the international sales rights to the documentary We Had a Plan, ahead of its world premiere at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, Variety reported on 30 October 2026.
International sales rights are the deals that let a company offer a film to cinemas, streamers and broadcasters in other countries. Cat&Docs is led by president and CEO Catherine Le Clef.
The film follows Paul and Daniel, a gay Filipino couple who spent 10 years cleaning without papers in the Netherlands before moving back to the Philippines. Suzanne Raes directed it, and Venice De Castro Atienza co-directed. Variety also published an exclusive first look at the trailer.
The film will premiere in the Luminous strand of the festival, which runs from 12 to 22 November. IDFA lists the running time as 96 minutes. The documentary is also in contention for the festival's Best Dutch Film Award, according to Variety.
Ilja Roomans produced the film for Docmakers, and Alemberg Ang co-produced for Daluyong Studios. Cinema Delicatessen will handle its distribution in the Netherlands.
Before the festival, the project was shown as a work in progress at NLWave, a showcase for Dutch-linked films still in production, Business Doc Europe reported on 1 October 2026.
Festivals such as IDFA work as marketplaces. Sales companies and buyers watch new films there, and their deals often decide which documentaries reach audiences in the months and years that follow. A premiere in Amsterdam, followed by a sales deal, is one of the usual early steps on that path.
Nothing here is final until the festival opens. The next public moment is the premiere in November, when the film will meet its first audience.
