Tony Kaye to Direct Short Film Among Leicester's Giant Monsters

Tony Kaye, the director of the 1998 feature American History X, will make a short film set among giant monster sculptures in Leicester, England. Variety reported the project on 30 October 2026.
The short is called Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? It runs five minutes and blends documentary with reality drama. Hiu Man Chan is producing. Chan is a film entrepreneur and academic in creative industries at De Montfort University, and the production will pair Kaye with up-and-coming actors and filmmakers from the university and the wider Leicester creative scene. Louis Lingjaerde is the cinematographer.
The film's backdrop is Leicester Monsters, a programme of oversized creatures placed on city streets and public spaces. BID Leicester, a local partnership that works on the city centre, runs the scheme. Bristol-based Designs in Air installed the sculptures. A BID Leicester Facebook post dated 30 September said the programme featured eight giant monster installations and was scheduled to take over the city centre from 22 to 31 October.
Kaye's work spans fiction and documentary. American History X earned Edward Norton an Oscar nomination for best actor. His 2011 film Detachment, starring Adrien Brody, won the Critics' Award and Revelation Prize at the Deauville American Film Festival, and the Best Artistic Contribution Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival. In 2006 he directed the documentary Lake of Fire.
The project is built around a place. Instead of a studio set, the monsters are part of the streets themselves, and the cast and crew are drawn from a university and a city's creative community. The short is one of the few recent announcements to tie a film so directly to a public art programme running in a single city.
Details on when the short will be shot or where it will be shown were not part of the announcement.
