Death Stranding Anime Gets First Teaser, Set for Disney+ in 2027

Kojima Productions and Disney+ have released the first teaser trailer for Death Stranding Isolations, an anime television series scheduled for release in 2027. PushSquare reported the teaser on 30 October 2026.

The series is an original story set in the world of Death Stranding. It takes place after Sam Porter Bridges has reconnected North America through the Chiral Network, the logistics network the games work toward building. The premise therefore begins from the state the games aim for, not the start of the original journey. Engadget describes the teaser as the anime's first, and the show is set to debut on Disney+.

Takayuki Sano directs the series, and Hideo Kojima is an executive producer. The show is scheduled to stream exclusively on Disney+ in 2027, according to AOL, which reported on the Disney arrangement on the same date. Kojima Productions' own announcement page lists the same Disney+ distribution.

The teaser's tagline is “My mom became a crater.” It is the only dialogue-derived text attributed to the series so far, and the most concrete creative material the announcement has made public. Engadget's headline frames the teaser as arriving ahead of the Disney debut, which places the trailer as a marketing step before a release more than a year away.

In my view, the choice to start after reconnection is the detail worth watching. The games revolve around a loop of traversal, delivery, and the slow reconnection of isolated communities, so an anime that begins where that work is finished has to find its tension somewhere else. Whether it leans on new characters, a different scale of conflict, or the rebuilt network itself is not detailed in the announcement, and the teaser does not settle the question.

The broader context here is distribution. Death Stranding reached audiences first as an interactive game, and this series arrives as a scripted television show on a subscription streaming service with an exclusivity window. For a franchise whose identity has been tied to a particular kind of player experience, a streaming-first episodic format changes what the audience is asked to do. Viewers will judge the adaptation on story, pacing, and tone rather than controller input, and the games' fanbase will test whether those qualities carry the material across.

For the anime industry, a Disney+ exclusive with a known game creator attached as executive producer adds another large-platform commission to the growing list of video game adaptations moving onto streaming. The practical effect is wider access. A viewer who has never held a controller can follow the story, and a fan of the games can follow the lore without a console.

My reading is that this direction is encouraging, though it depends on execution the announcement cannot yet show.

A teaser exists, the series is an anime set after the reconnection of North America, Sano directs, Kojima serves as executive producer, and Disney+ holds the 2027 exclusive. Episode count, cast, and a firm release date are still to come in later announcements.
