No10 North advertises 50 jobs in Manchester

No10 North, the Prime Minister's office in Manchester, has launched 50 external job adverts, all for roles based in the city.
The office was set up in July. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said he created it to take power out of Whitehall, the cluster of central government departments in London, and to rewire what he described as an over-centralised country. The Prime Minister was due to host his first meeting there in July, ITV News reported.
One of the advertised posts is a "rewiring the state deputy director", with a salary band of £86,000 to £117,000. Government sources said the new roles will be paid for out of existing budgets.
BBC News calculated that the new roles total up to £2.8m in basic salaries alone, not including employer pension contributions. No10 North now has 120 members of staff. No10 London, the Downing Street office in the capital, has 280.
The office is currently at Heron House on Manchester's Albert Square. It will move to a new government office on First Street in spring 2027.
The Office for the Prime Minister expects staff in No10 to be in the office at least 60% of the time, with exceptions for certain roles.
