tvOS 27.2 Adds Narrower Photo Selection, Sign Language Support and Siri Remote Locating

Apple has released tvOS 27.2, build 24K122, dated October 26, 2026, according to its Developer Releases page. The update adds a Shuffle option to the Apple TV screensaver, which cycles through Aerials, Memories, Portraits and Snoopy, according to Engadget.
The screensaver change also includes a narrower photo-selection mechanism. Users can pick specific photos from an iPhone for the Apple TV screensaver without sharing the entire photo library. For households that want personal images on the television without giving the set access to everything on a phone, that distinction matters.
FaceTime gains direct join links on Apple TV, so a user can enter a call from the set rather than starting it on a phone. The call still uses an iPhone as the webcam through Continuity Camera, which lets an iPhone act as a camera for another Apple device. FaceTime in tvOS 27.2 also lets users add third-party sign language interpreters and live captioning services to a call.
Accessibility appears in the Apple TV app as well. Select movies and shows now support American Sign Language (ASL) and British Sign Language (BSL), which can be enabled through the player controls or in Settings. Apple's Apple TV software updates page, dated October 26, 2026, says the update also introduces a new Liquid Glass design, Apple's translucent interface style, and brings cinematic poster art to the Apple TV app.
On the remote side, tvOS 27.2 makes the Siri Remote appear in the Find My app. Users no longer need to open TV Remote from the iPhone Control Center to locate it. The new Apple TV 4K ships with a redesigned Siri Remote that improves Find My support and includes a speaker to help locate it.
The update also brings profile support to the TV app. With iOS 27.2, the TV app on iPhone and iPad gained profiles, and those profiles now sync with Apple TV. tvOS 27.2 includes a black-and-white Apple Music icon that matches the one added in iOS 27.2.
Siri AI is available in beta in tvOS 27.2. Apple unveiled the new Apple TV 4K as supercharged by Siri AI on October 13, 2026, in the same week it announced the HomePod mini 2 with Siri AI, new colors and enhanced audio. Setting up a surround sound system with two HomePod mini 2 or HomePod 2nd generation units is exclusive to the new Apple TV 4K with the A19 chip.
The software is free. tvOS 27.2 runs on the second-generation Apple TV 4K released in 2021 and later models, so the feature set is not limited to the new hardware, with the surround configuration as the notable exception.
The wider 27.2 cycle has a longer history. Apple announced beta versions of tvOS 27.2 alongside iOS 27.2, iPadOS 27.2, macOS 27.2 and visionOS 27.2 on September 16, 2026. Earlier in September, Apple's newsroom said Apple TV users gained high-resolution lossless audio support for Apple Music and a redesigned Apple Podcasts app. Apple's support page states that the latest versions of both tvOS and watchOS are 27.2. In iPadOS 27.2, supervised devices will see the Software Update and Erase All Contents and Settings options removed from Recovery Mode.
In my view, the accessibility and privacy-related changes deserve more attention than the screensaver cosmetics. Sign language interpretation and captioning inside a live call, and photo selection that stops short of library access, address concrete friction points for specific users. Whether those features get wide use will depend on how many third-party services and titles adopt them.
The Siri AI beta is labeled beta in this release, so its behavior and scope may change before it reaches a general release.
The broader context here is that the Siri AI beta is the piece to watch in the coming months. For now, tvOS 27.2 reads as an incremental update to the Apple TV experience, with the most notable additions in accessibility, cross-device profile handling and remote locating.
