Keke Palmer and her three-year-old son, Leo, dressed as Janet and Michael Jackson for Halloween, and Janet Jackson took notice.

Palmer shared videos of the pair on Oct. 29, recreating the black-and-white look of "Scream," the 1995 song by Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. Palmer played Janet and Leo played Michael. She captioned the post on Instagram "Happy Halloween from me && my mini me!!"

The real Janet Jackson responded. She reshared Palmer's tribute posts on Instagram Stories, the short-lived photo and video feature that disappears after 24 hours unless it is saved to a profile. Under the post she wrote "I LOVE THIS !!! HOW CUTE !" Billboard reported the exchange.

"Scream" is a song that still turns up in conversations about the Jacksons. It reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, the main US singles chart, which ranks songs using sales, radio airplay and streaming figures. A No. 5 placing means the song was one of the five most popular in the United States that week.

The costume also marks a family moment of its own. Palmer's caption frames the outfit as a pairing of parent and child, with Leo as the "mini me." For a three-year-old, a Halloween costume is usually a chance to pick a character and see how long the energy lasts. This year Leo's character came with a recreated music video and a dance partner who was watching from the other side of the screen.

Palmer and Leo's videos were the story. No new music, tour or deal was announced. The posts were a Halloween tradition shared by two performers and their families, and the response from Janet Jackson made it public.
