Kadeena Cox wins second gold at Para-cycling Track World Championships

Kadeena Cox has won her second gold medal at the Para-cycling Track World Championships in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands, and she set a world record along the way.
Para-cycling is the Paralympic form of the sport. Riders compete in classes grouped by their impairment. Track racing takes place on a steeply banked indoor oval called a velodrome.
In the C4 1km time trial, Cox won gold with a world record. A time trial is a race against the clock, with riders setting off alone. Cox then posted a record time of 11.409 seconds in the first round of the C4 sprint. Sprints are short, tactical head-to-head races, and the first round is a qualifying heat.
She went on to beat Australia's Tara Neyland in the sprint final, winning her first individual sprint world title. BBC Sport reported the result.
Cox's gold rush was one of several strong results for Great Britain. James Ball and Aaron Pope won the men's tandem sprint, a race for two-rider bikes. It was their second gold of the championships, after their victory in the 1km time trial. Sophie Unwin and Jenny Holl won the women's tandem sprint, their sixth world title. Lizzi Jordan and Anna Whitworth-Hay took bronze in the same event after beating Germany.
Across the championships, Great Britain's medal count stands at six golds, eight silvers and five bronze.
Cox's record breaking is not new territory. On her Paralympic cycling debut at Rio 2016, she broke her own world record to win gold in the C4-5 500m time trial. That came 24 hours after she had won an athletics bronze medal at the same Games. At Tokyo 2020, she was part of the team sprint crew that set a world record on the final day of track cycling. At Paris 2024, she won the women's C4 sprint with a world record, beating Canada's Kate O'Brien.
Cox is a Paralympic champion at Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024. Her performances in Apeldoorn add to a track record that now stretches across three Games and several world championships.
