Drew Spence now has more Women's Super League appearances than anyone in the competition's history. The Tottenham player made her 217th WSL appearance, starting against Birmingham City, and so passed former Chelsea captain Millie Bright at the top of the list, BBC Sport reported.

Spence called the achievement a "very proud moment" in her comments to BBC Sport. An appearance counts whenever a player takes the field in a league match, whether she starts or comes on as a substitute.

Her route to the record has been long. Spence came through the academies at Arsenal and Fulham. She then spent 14 years at Chelsea, where she won five league titles and four FA Cups. She joined Tottenham in 2022.

She has also changed her international allegiance. In 2021 she switched from England to Jamaica, the country of her heritage, and she has played for the Reggae Girlz since.

Her first season at Tottenham was a busy one. She played 22 games, more than in any season she had at Chelsea. Tottenham's club website said in October that she had equalled the WSL record in the north London derby against Arsenal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, when she had 79 appearances for the club in England's top flight.

The club named her captain in the summer before the 2026-27 season. Spence wears the number 24 shirt. So far this season she has played every minute for Tottenham, according to the BBC.

Appearance records reward something quieter than goals or trophies. They reward being picked, and staying fit, season after season. Spence has now done that for longer than any other player in the league's history, and the record stands as a tally of time on the pitch, built one match at a time.
