Alcaraz Beats De Minaur 6-1, 6-4 to Win Vienna Open

Carlos Alcaraz won the Vienna Open on Sunday, beating Alex de Minaur 6-1, 6-4 in the final. BBC Sport reported that the match lasted 87 minutes.
Winning in straight sets means taking every set, so the match was over after two. A set goes to the first player to win six games, provided they lead by at least two. Alcaraz took the first set 6-1 and the second 6-4, and de Minaur could not get back into it.
It is Alcaraz's fourth title of the season, according to CNA. Earlier in 2026 he won ATP 500 events in Doha and Tokyo. The ATP 500 is one of the men's tour's mid-sized tournaments, a level below the Masters 1000 events and the Grand Slams.
The win also extends a long run. Alcaraz has now won 26 consecutive matches at ATP 500 events. That streak began with a loss to Holger Rune at the 2025 Barcelona Open, which is a useful reminder of how long a winning run can take to build.
Alcaraz reached the final by beating Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 7-6(2) in the semi-final. The second set went to a tiebreak, a short game played when a set reaches 6-6. Alcaraz won that tiebreak 7-2. It was his fifth final of 2026.
De Minaur's route was harder. He beat Alexander Zverev 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(4) in the other semi-final. Zverev was the tournament's top seed, a ranking that protects the best players from meeting each other early in a draw. He was also set to become World No. 1 in the rankings. The third set went to a tiebreak, and de Minaur won it 7-4.
Alcaraz was the second seed in Vienna and was ranked No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings when he played the final. The result also ends a head-to-head record with a clear pattern. Alcaraz has now beaten de Minaur in seven straight meetings, and this was the seventh of those seven matches.
For de Minaur, reaching the final was the first time he had got this far in Vienna in 2026. He had already beaten the top seed to get there, so the defeat will sting, but the run is still a strong week.
What matters most for the rest of the season is the points. Winning a title adds ranking points, and Alcaraz's victory will help him keep his place near the top of the rankings as the year closes. The tour now moves on from Vienna, and both players will be looking at their next targets.
