Brian Gleeson, Colm Meaney, Alex Murphy and Aidan Gillen are set to lead the cast of a new feature film called Paddy Power, according to Variety, which reported the casting on Monday, 2 November 2026.

The film follows how a small Dublin bookmaker grew into one of the world's most recognisable betting companies. It is based on Aaron Rogan's book Punters: How Paddy Power Bet Billions and Changed Gambling Forever. The film takes its title from the company at its centre.

Matt Lipsey has been tapped to direct. Dale Longmore and John Quinn will adapt Rogan's book for the screen and write the script with Brian Durnin.

The project comes from Playhouse Studios, an Irish media production company. According to Variety, Paddy Power is the first title from the studio's original scripted slate. A slate is a studio's planned line-up of projects, so this film is the first to come off that list.

For readers in Ireland and beyond, the subject is likely to be familiar. A bookmaker is a company that takes bets on sport and other events, and Paddy Power's name is one many people have seen on high streets, in shop windows and on screens. Turning that company's rise into a film puts a business story in front of a general audience, with a cast of well-known Irish actors at the front.

Further details, such as a release date or distributor, were not part of the announcement.
