Speedy Deportations Resume, Haitians Face Ended Protections, and Deportees Turn to TikTok

A federal appeals court has allowed the Trump administration to resume an expanded use of speedy deportations of undocumented migrants, according to a PBS NewsHour report published in June 2026.
The ruling falls within a wider debate over how quickly people without legal status can be removed from the country. Speedy deportations generally refer to procedures that move cases through the system with less time than a full court process.
Protections that had shielded some groups from deportation have also been ending. On July 1, 2026, Reuters reported that Haitians were facing fear and uncertainty as those protections came to an end.
Some people who have been deported from the United States are now recording their lives abroad. In 2025, NBC4 News reported on deportees who document their new lives on TikTok. Reporter Mekahlo Medina covered the trend for the station in a separate segment.
According to The Cut, published in August 2025, some of these creators post video diaries of their search for housing and work in countries that are unfamiliar to them.
Taken together, the court decision, the end of protections for Haitians and the online diaries of deportees describe different points in the same system: decisions made in courtrooms and government offices, and the experiences of people who must live with them.
