Goodfellas Unveils First Images of Toho's Sci-Fi Thriller Leviathan

Goodfellas has released the first images from Leviathan, a live-action science-fiction thriller from Japanese studio Toho, as it opens sales on the film ahead of the American Film Market. Deadline reported the images on 2 November 2026.
The film adapts Leviathan, the best-selling manga by Shiro Kuroi. It is set in 2127. A accident leaves a spacecraft adrift in deep space, low on oxygen and with only one life support, and a group of students must fight to survive.
Michihito Fujii and Ryohei Shingu direct the film. Fujii shares the screenplay credit with Izumi Takahashi. The cast is led by Shunsuke Michieda and Natsuki Deguchi.
Toho will release Leviathan in Japan on 11 February 2027. The film is still in post-production, the stage where editing, visual effects and sound are finished. Goodfellas will show a first promotional reel at the American Film Market, the Santa Monica gathering where distributors buy and sell films before they reach cinemas. Goodfellas holds the sales rights to every territory outside Asia.
Goodfellas has a busy slate beyond this title. The Girl Who Was Plugged In, a science-fiction film directed by Jennifer Kent and starring Sophie Thatcher, is on its fall list. Mia Hansen-Løve's If Love Should Die stars Renate Reinsve as Mary Wollstonecraft. Michel Hazanavicius's The Third Hand, starring Francois Civil, is also in post-production.
Two of the company's finished films have already been seen in public. Le Faux Soir, directed by Michaël R. Roskam, and Four Seasons, directed by Kamila Andini, both played at the Toronto International Film Festival. Four Seasons is Indonesia's entry in the race for the 99th Academy Awards.
For a general viewer, the sales steps matter here. A film often gets its international buyers years before it opens, and the first pictures and reels help those buyers decide. Leviathan now has a release date in Japan and a sales team working the rest of the world.
