Documenta 16, the large contemporary art exhibition in Kassel, Germany, has added four people to its curatorial team.

Raven Chacon has been named curator-at-large. Osei Bonsu, Timea Junghaus and Noam Segal have been appointed curatorial advisers. A curator-at-large works across the whole project rather than one department, and an adviser offers guidance on its direction. documenta.de announced the extended team on 28 October.

Chacon is an artist and musician, according to Hyperallergic. The new appointments were also reported by The Art Newspaper, which covered the hiring on 2 November.

The exhibition is led by Naomi Beckwith, who is artistic director of Documenta 16. She is also deputy director and chief curator of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Documenta takes place roughly once every five years, and this edition will run from 12 June to 19 September in Kassel.

The team already included Carla Acevedo-Yates, Romi Crawford, Mayra A. Rodríguez Castro and Xiaoyu Weng. Together, these curators are developing the exhibition, its publications and its public programmes. The new names join that group as planning moves forward.

For visitors, the change is mostly about who will be shaping the show. For the curators, it means more hands on the exhibition's exhibitions, books and events over the coming months. Kassel's streets will not look different yet, but the planning has grown.
