Antoine de Massy, 29, Found Dead in Monaco; Funeral Set for Wednesday

Antoine de Massy, a 29-year-old member of Monaco's extended royal family, was found dead on October 25, 2026, in a park near the Villa Sauber. The Prince's Palace of Monaco, the official residence of Prince Albert II, announced his death the next day, Monday, October 26.
Monaco is a small city-state on the French Riviera, ruled by a prince who serves as head of state. Global News reported that a man had been detained in the case. Monaco prosecutor general Stephane Thibault said a 42-year-old man has been charged with failure to assist a person in danger and manslaughter, and that he has been remanded in custody, meaning he will be held in jail while the case proceeds.
De Massy was the grandson of Princess Antoinette, the elder sister of Prince Rainier III, who was Albert's father. His parents are Baron Christian De Massy and Mrs. Cecile Gelabale. Christian is a first cousin of Prince Albert II, which makes Antoine a first cousin once removed of the prince. That phrase means he was one generation further down the family tree from the prince's own cousins.
The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in Monaco Cathedral, which is also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate. Town & Country reported that burial will follow the mass at Monaco Cemetery.
The cathedral has marked many of the family's most public moments. For American readers, it is best known as the church where Grace Kelly, the actress born in Philadelphia, married Prince Rainier III in 1956. It also hosted the funerals of Princess Grace in 1982 and of Princess Antoinette in 2011.
Prince Albert has been described in news reports as mourning his relative, and the family's public statements have been brief. The mass on Wednesday will be a private family occasion of mourning for a young man whose life ended at 29. Those who knew him will gather in a church that has seen the family through many of its hardest days.
