Chilean actor Benjamín Vicuña has joined the cast of "My Last Stand", the new film from director Matías Bize, Variety reported. The Spanish title is "Aquí me bajo yo".

Vicuña plays Julián, the father of Amanda and the son of the grandfather. The film centres on that family. He co-stars with 91-year-old Jaime Vadell, one of the best-known veteran actors in Chile.

Filming began on Oct. 19. Production is now underway near Santiago, Chile, at a country house beside a vineyard. Shooting on location like this means the cast and crew work at one set for the length of the schedule, until every scene is "in the can", a film-making term for finished and recorded.

The script is based on a play by Elena Muñoz. She wrote the screenplay with Raimundo Bastidas and Milena Bastidas.

"My Last Stand" is Bize's 10th feature film, meaning his tenth full-length movie for cinemas. It is slated for a world premiere in 2027. A world premiere is the first public screening of a film anywhere in the world.

Bize has made a run of films, and this one adds a new name to a story built around a family and a house in the countryside. Vicuña and Vadell share the central family thread, so audiences will see the two generations together on screen.

No release date beyond the 2027 premiere has been announced, and there is no word yet on where the film will premiere or who will distribute it. The next update is likely to come from the producers or from Bize himself as the shoot wraps and the premiere date is confirmed.

For Chilean audiences, the cast alone is a reason to watch for the first trailer. For everyone else, the film is a reminder that a story takes a long road from a stage play to a cinema screen, and that it moves through a lot of hands on the way.
