Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel in intensive care after collision with Andorra goalkeeper

Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel is in intensive care in stable condition after a serious injury in a Spanish second division match on Monday.
The 30-year-old, who was born in Madrid, was hurt in stoppage time, the minutes added at the end of a match to make up for delays. The game was at Tenerife's home ground, the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez, and the score was 2-2 at the time. De Miguel was injured in the head and chest area after a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono.
Tenerife said he was stable despite the severity of his condition. He was admitted to the University Hospital of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria, according to BBC Sport.
The referee showed Owono a straight red card, which means an immediate sending off with no earlier yellow card first. The referee then abandoned the match. The incident came in the final minutes of a game that had already seen both teams score twice.
Serious injuries on the pitch are rare, and they stop a ground quickly. Players, staff and supporters watching at the stadium had to absorb what they saw while the medical team worked. Football has a long habit of coming together after such moments, with teammates, rivals and fans sending messages of support to the player and his family.
Spain's second division is the country's second tier, one step below La Liga. Clubs in it play the same ninety-minute format, with the same risk of collisions and falls that every league carries. For now, the most important news is simple. De Miguel is alive, in hospital, and described by his club as stable.
