I Play Rocky Submitted to Golden Globes as a Comedy, Not a Drama

Amazon MGM has submitted I Play Rocky for Golden Globes consideration as a musical or comedy rather than a drama, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 2 November.
The film, directed by Peter Farrelly, depicts Sylvester Stallone and the making of the 1976 film Rocky. Anthony Ippolito plays Stallone. Under this submission, he would compete for best actor in a musical or comedy.
The original Rocky competed at the Golden Globes as a drama. The awards split film into two main groups, drama and musical or comedy, each with its own top prize and acting awards. Entries are meant to go in the group that best matches a film's overall intent and tone, so the choice of group can shape which rivals a film faces.
The category is subject to approval by the Golden Globes organisation, so the classification is not yet settled.
The switch of group is not the only recent case. In October, Variety reported that the Globes had denied Lionsgate's bid to enter the Michael Jackson biopic Michael as a comedy or musical. Luca Guadagnino's Artificial has also been submitted as a comedy.
I Play Rocky had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, where it placed first runner-up for the People's Choice Award. It is also set to open the Cairo International Film Festival on 11 November, according to Deadline.
