Six horror and genre projects have been chosen for the seventh edition of the Sanfic Mórbido Lab, according to Variety. Five of the titles come from Latin America and one from Spain.

The lab is a development programme. Selected filmmakers spend time refining their scripts and plans with mentors before a film is shot. It sits inside Sanfic Industria, the industry arm of Chile's Sanfic festival, which runs from 2 to 8 November in Santiago de Chile.

Among the projects is "L4IK4", made by Simón and Raimundo Bucher. It is the first feature from Simón Bucher. Roberto San Sebastián is behind "The Hostess", and Javier Attridge wrote and directs "Beneath the Flesh".

Other selected projects include "Chupacu", written and directed by Antonia Baudouin and produced by Rodrigo Carneiro. Pablo Vergara brings "Spring Curse", his latest film, and Jesus "Chiva" Rodriguez is behind "Tonalli", also his latest.

Lab projects are not finished films. A place in the programme gives a project a chance to meet producers, sales agents and buyers, and to build the financing and partners it needs. Many genre titles take a long road from the lab to a cinema screen, so a selection like this is an early step rather than a release date.

The lab has been running for several years. Its 2023 edition was its fourth, so this year's seventh edition marks a steady run for a programme that focuses on the horror and thriller end of the market.

Sanfic Industria's week brings the lab's participants, along with producers and industry guests, to Santiago. The lineup gives Latin American genre filmmakers a fixed point on the calendar, and a place where they can pitch their work to people who can help it get made.
