Invercine, Gema Films and Gaman Cine will take their latest productions to market at SANFIC Industria's WIP Iberoamericana, according to Variety. The 2026 edition of the festival runs from November 2 to 8.

WIP stands for "work in progress." The section picks up to 10 fiction and documentary features through an Ibero-American call, and it looks at films in first-cut stage, the rough early version before final editing. The WIP programme has run since 2011.

The lineup includes "Zambra," directed by Paula Leonvendagar. The film centres on Alejandro Zambra and is backed by Invercine, a company led by Macarena and Matías Cardone. Invercine is also behind series including "News of a Kidnapping," "Dignity," "Ramona" and "Mary & Mike."

Another project, "The Other Voice," is directed by Agustina Pérez Rial. It is an intimate, first-person portrait of the singer Mercedes Sosa. Nicolás Gil Lavedra is the lead producer at Argentina's Gaman Cine, which he co-founded with Emiliano Torres.

"Hot Springs," or "Las termas" in Spanish, marks the directorial debut of Armin Marchesini Weihmuller. Gema Films is producing it.

Cinestación, headed by Dominga Sotomayor and Omar Zúñiga, is co-producing "The Grass Along the Path," which is also part of the WIP Iberoamericana. Co-producing means two or more companies share the making of a film, usually splitting the work and the costs.

SANFIC Industria has also opened applications for Books at Berlinale. The call is aimed at Chilean producers with literary adaptation projects, meaning films based on novels or other written books.

Showing unfinished films at this stage gives producers a chance to meet potential partners before a picture is complete. Festival industry sections like this one are where many films find financing, sales agents and, eventually, a route to screens.
