Visitors to Amsterdam's Rembrandt House Museum can get a Rembrandt tattoo this autumn, and the chance closes on 7 November.

The museum sits in Rembrandt's former canal-side home in central Amsterdam. It is hosting “The Poor Man's Rembrandt Project,” a two-week public event, according to ArtNews. The project is run with Henk Schiffmacher, a 74-year-old Dutch tattoo artist, and his studio.

Seven tattoo artists, Schiffmacher and six colleagues, are working in a temporary studio inside the museum. The designs are taken from Rembrandt's drawings and etchings, which are prints made from engraved metal plates. The artists come from Schiffmacher & Veldhoen, the studio named by the museum.

People can book a session in advance or walk in. The 2026 edition runs from 26 October to 7 November, and the museum says the tattoos offered to the public are smaller Rembrandt pieces, as The Art Newspaper reported. Sessions cost 100 to 350 euros, or about $110 to $390, according to ArtNews.

The museum has also given away a free Rembrandt back-piece tattoo as part of the project. A larger piece, that giveaway is one of the few free options tied to the event.

This is not the first time the museum has worked with Schiffmacher on the idea. It held a similar tattoo event with him in 2023, when the earlier edition ran from 17 to 25 June.

With the close date a few days away, anyone wanting a session will need to book soon or plan a visit before the studio shuts its doors.
