Johnny Depp has talked about returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in a sixth Pirates of the Caribbean film, but he has not confirmed that he will. He discussed the idea in an interview with Entertainment Tonight during his press tour for Ebenezer, as Variety reported on 2 November 2026.

Depp said he would be willing to work with franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer on a new film, whatever the project. He said he trusts Bruckheimer and described a deep friendship between the two men. His hope for any next instalment is to send the franchise off on a better note.

Depp headlined five Pirates films between 2003 and 2017. Variety reports that those movies, with Depp at the centre, collectively grossed $4.5 billion at the box office.

The idea of another film is not new. In summer 2025, Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly that he had spoken to Depp about a new Pirates movie. That August, Deadline reported that Depp was considering a return as Jack Sparrow.

Bruckheimer has kept the door open. In February 2026, he told Deadline he thought Depp would play the role again in a reboot if the script was good. In August 2026, Deadline reported Bruckheimer saying that Depp was in talks for "Pirates 6." Talks are not a deal, and no casting has been announced.

Depp's own words are the most recent word on the matter. He has not said yes, and he has not said no. For a franchise that has spent years in the background, that is the kind of answer that keeps fans waiting for the next update.

Big franchise returns usually move slowly. A star's interest, a producer's optimism and a script still in development all have to line up before a studio like Disney, which owns the franchise, can set a start date or a release window. For now, the update is a conversation, not a contract.
