Japan's Animation Association Names New Prize the Nippon Anime Awards

Japan's animation industry has a new prize, and its first ceremony has a date. The Association of Japanese Animations (AJA) announced on Nov. 2 that its awards will be called the Nippon Anime Awards. The first ceremony is set for Nov. 21, 2027.
The name was unveiled on stage at Tokyo Tatemono Brillia Hall by AJA president Ishikawa Kazuko, according to Variety. The reveal took place during Tokyo Anime Next, which ran from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2. The event was mostly held in Ikebukuro, a busy shopping and entertainment district in Tokyo. The AJA organised it, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government co-organised it.
The awards will honour standout anime titles and the creators behind them. The organisers say the prize is meant for audiences both in Japan and overseas. Anime has a large following around the world, so a single awards show that speaks to fans in many countries is a clear aim. The name comes with a slogan: "Moving Frames. Moving Hearts. Moving the World."
The ceremony will take place at SGC Hall Ariake, in the Ariake district of Tokyo. That gives the awards a fixed home city and a fixed night, which is useful for anyone who wants to follow them. Until then, the programme's categories and eligibility rules have not been part of the announcement.
For the people who make anime, a dedicated national prize adds one more event to the calendar. Studios, writers, animators and voice actors will now have a set night to look forward to, and a clear date for their work to be judged in public. For viewers, it is a new reference point. Anyone looking for titles that have been singled out at home will have a place to look once the first winners are named in 2027.
