Man charged over alleged baseball bat attack on One Nation volunteer in Torquay

A 37-year-old Hampton Park man has been charged over an alleged baseball bat attack on a One Nation volunteer in Torquay, on Victoria's Surf Coast. Victoria Police also arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the alleged assault, and the boy was issued with a caution, a formal police warning that does not result in a court case.
The alleged attack took place at a premises on Scorpio Street in Torquay at about 7.45pm on Sunday night, according to The Guardian. The volunteer was reported to be a 60-year-old man who was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The attack was described as having happened outside his home.
The 37-year-old man was charged with intentionally causing injury and other assault-related offences. He was remanded in custody, meaning he will be held in custody until his next court date, and is due to appear again on 10 November.
The alleged victim was a One Nation volunteer for the Victorian state election, which is scheduled for 28 November. One Nation, a political party, condemned the alleged assault on its volunteer in Torquay.
Pauline Hanson, the party's federal leader, and Colleen Harkin, its Victorian deputy leader, were expected to visit the injured man in hospital on Tuesday morning.
