Neve Campbell Confirms She Will Return for Scream 8

Neve Campbell is coming back for Scream 8. The actress confirmed she will return as Sidney Prescott, the franchise's central heroine, in an interview with the Associated Press. Asked about it, she said, "I'll be in it."
The confirmation came while Campbell was promoting her role in the Netflix series Black Doves. She is also joining the second season of a Netflix spy series, according to the same AP interview. Variety reported that the Scream 8 news put her back at the centre of the franchise's next chapter.
The return matters because of how well the last film did. Scream 7 opened with $97.2 million worldwide, the largest opening in the franchise's history, according to Variety. Over its run it grossed $208 million worldwide against a $45 million budget, making it the highest-grossing film in the series. Budget is the cost of making the movie, before marketing, and a film that earns several times its budget is usually a strong result for the studio that financed it.
Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures began developing Scream 8 after those numbers came in. Spyglass is the production company behind the franchise, and Paramount distributes the films in cinemas. Neither company has announced a release date for the new film.
Campbell's path back has not always been smooth. She missed Scream VI, released in 2023, after a dispute over pay with Spyglass, as The Hollywood Reporter reported in 2024. She returned for Scream 7, and Variety has reported that she was paid a reported $7 million to play Sidney again. In all, she has appeared in six of the seven films.
The next film also has a change behind the camera. Kevin Williamson, who created the franchise, told The Hollywood Reporter in March 2026 that he does not plan to write or direct Paramount's possible Scream 8. His name has been tied to the series since its first film.
Scream 7 followed a new Ghostface killer who targets Sidney and her daughter, a storyline that set up a new generation of the family inside the same mask-and-knife formula. Whether Scream 8 picks up that thread has not been announced.
For fans, the headline is simple. Sidney Prescott is coming back, and the studio behind the films has already started work on the next one.
