Emraan Hashmi is starring in a new musical horror film called "Rooh", and its producers say it is aimed at cinemas in 2027. The news was reported by Variety on 3 November 2026.

The film mixes horror with romance, and its songs are built into the story rather than placed around it. Mayank Sharma directs from a screenplay he wrote with Vishal Kapoor. The film is planned for release in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, three of the main language markets in India.

Two companies from the Tips group have joined the producing team. Tips Films presents the film, which is a Vicked Films production. Tips Music will release the soundtrack. Tips also produced Hashmi's first film, "Footpath", so the new project brings the two back together.

Kumar Taurani has boarded the project, meaning he has joined it as a producer. He is one of four lead producers alongside Girissh Kumar, Vikram Khakhar and Sunny Khanna. Vikas Sahni is listed as co-producer.

The 2027 target gives the team a long runway. Musical films depend heavily on their songs, so the soundtrack release on Tips Music will be one of the first public looks at the project as the schedule moves forward. No specific release date has been announced yet.

For readers new to the industry, a producer is the person or company who puts a film together, finds the money and makes the key decisions about cast, crew and where the film is shown. A film can have several producers, and the names listed often reflect who brought in funding, who handles the business side and who helps with the creative work. Multiple language releases are also planned at the outset, which is common for large Indian productions that expect audiences across several regions.

Hashmi has built a long career in Hindi cinema, and this is a new kind of project for the actor. Musical horror is a combination that rarely appears on large-scale release calendars, so the film stands out from the usual slate. Audiences will have to wait more than a year to see how the pieces fit together.
