Russia struck a hospital in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv overnight, injuring at least 73 people, according to Al Jazeera. The attack happened at about 3 a.m. local time on Tuesday, 3 November, as part of a wider overnight assault that also targeted power facilities in several regions.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia directly struck a city clinical hospital in Kharkiv and damaged its cardiology department, where people were receiving treatment. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that the hospital sustained heavy damage in the bombardment on Monday night, with more than 1,000 windows shattered.

Zelenskyy said Russia launched 289 attack drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles overnight. Ballistic missiles follow a high arcing path before dropping onto their target, while cruise missiles fly at lower altitude along a guided route.

Zelenskyy said Russia's main targets were power generation facilities and substations in nine regions: Odesa, Cherkasy, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Chernivtsi, Chernihiv and Rivne. Russia's Ministry of Defence said it had targeted electricity facilities in the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions that supplied power to the Ukrainian army and military factories.

The effects reached ordinary households. Vitalii Bunechko, governor of the Zhytomyr region, said more than 180,000 people were without power there on Tuesday morning after the Russian attacks. In the port city of Odesa, authorities introduced scheduled power outages in response to the strikes on energy infrastructure.

Russia's side also reported casualties. Mikhail Yevrayev, governor of the Yaroslavl region in Russia, said two employees at an oil refinery there were injured during a Ukrainian drone attack that caused a fire.
