King Charles III is to speak in Antigua about the transatlantic slave trade. According to the BBC, he will do so with “unflinching honesty” and “sincere sorrow” about the lasting pain the trade has left.
The speech comes as leaders gather in Antigua for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, a regular summit of the Commonwealth, an association of countries, most of them former British territories. Ahead of that meeting, the UK Prime Minister met Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, according to the UK government.
The King has addressed the subject before. In late October, Reuters reported that he acknowledged the injustices of slavery and said Commonwealth leaders would discuss the issue at their summit.
