Scotland drawn against Germany, Netherlands and Sweden in next women's Nations League

Scotland will play Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden in the next women's Nations League, according to BBC Sport. It is a tough group, and one that Scotland have seen before.
The Nations League is a competition for national teams that plays out over a series of set dates, rather than as one big tournament. Teams are sorted into leagues by strength, and each league is split into groups. Scotland were in the lowest tier of seeds in League A, the top league. Seeds are the rankings used to sort teams into pots before the draw, so Scotland started from the lowest pot.
The matches are spread across the calendar. Rounds 1 and 2 are scheduled for 23 February to 6 March 2027. Rounds 3 and 4 follow from 13 to 24 April, and Rounds 5 and 6 run from 7 to 15 June 2027. Each round is played in an international window, a block of days when clubs release their players for their country.
Scotland have met two of these opponents recently. In the 2025 competition, they lost 6-1 and 4-0 to Germany. They also lost 2-1 at home to the Netherlands, then drew 1-1 with them in Tilburg. Sweden last met Scotland in a 2021 friendly in Paisley, which Sweden won 2-0.
Sweden will also appear on Scotland's calendar before the Nations League starts. Scotland are preparing for a women's World Cup play-off against Sweden in December. A play-off is a match between teams who still need to secure a place at the finals, so the result will decide whether one of them goes through.
What stands out is the order. Scotland face Sweden first, in a match that could decide a place at the World Cup, and then meet them again in the Nations League in 2027. Two meetings in a short space of time give both squads a clear picture of each other.
For Scotland fans, the next few months bring a set of matches that will test the squad against some of Europe's strongest sides. The first Nations League window is still a few months away, so there is time for the picture to change before then.
