Ollie Robinson has been named England's cricketer of the year at the Cricket Writers' Club awards. The honour carries the Bob Willis Trophy, named after the former England fast bowler.

Robinson's numbers explain the choice. He took 28 wickets in four Tests at an average of 9.30, which means he conceded fewer than ten runs for every wicket. Bowling average is a simple measure: the runs a bowler gives away for each wicket taken, so a low figure is a strong one. Robinson is only the fifth winner of the Bob Willis Trophy since it was reallocated in 2022.

The other domestic honours went to players from the county game. The county circuit is England's top domestic competition, where sides play multi-day matches across a season. Ethan Bamber was named County Championship Player of the Year. He took 69 wickets in 16 matches for Warwickshire.

Naavya Sharma was named NV Play Men's Young Cricketer of the Year. The award is given to players under 20 and this year's winner took 35 wickets in nine County Championship matches, at an average of 21. Sharma is the 77th winner of the Young Cricketer of the Year Award, which has been handed out since 1950.

On the women's side, Tilly Corteen-Coleman was voted Women's Young Cricketer of the Year. Kirstie Gordon won the Women's Cricket Award. Angus Brown was named Disability Cricketer of the Year.

For fans, the list shows how wide the game's awards reach. Writers pick winners across the men's and women's games, the young players coming through, and the disability game, all in one night. Each name rewards a season of work on the field, and each one comes from a different corner of the sport.

The full list of winners was published by the BBC.
